Last fall, Irving added Annie's 2022 crew to their billboard.

In May, it was the first time for me to see it in person.

They started out with 15 tree planters and a crew chief.

A few weeks in, they had only 5 tree planters and a crew chief.

It is a job that takes strength, persistence, resiliency, and optimism.

Because her backpack is dirty from tree planting, Annie often leaves it on the porch. She goes to work very early so she packs the night before. One night, she put her backpack out with her lunch bag inside of it.

When Annie went to leave the next morning, she noticed her lunch bag missing, wondered what I did with it, and scurried around trying to make another.

We learned that Jim had heard something in the night and brought the backpack inside. It had been opened with things laying outside the bag, but he didn't realize anything was missing.

Somewhere in our woods, raccoons enjoyed a lunch packed in a purple insulated lunch bag!
