They went hiking in shorts on November 3rd.

When other hikers learned they were from Canada,

they were like, "Ohhhh!" as if now they understood why.

We thought they were crazy to drive five

hours and come back in a day.

But what a great getaway they had

hiking in Bar Harbour, Maine! 

They grabbed the moment.

Eliza made a little video with a favorite song.

I so enjoy watching it over and over.

Side note: When you hear the lyrics,
remember they did not get high in the

back seat of the car. Goodness gracious!

After 11 hours of hiking, the girls decided to go into town to have a good shower. (They were camping in the Baxter State Park, and it was rustic.) They stopped at the Katahdin Inn and asked if a shower was possible. Front desk said it wasn't something they normally do, but then he let the girls use the shower in the fitness area for $15. I asked if it was $15 for all three of them, and they said, "Oh no! It was $15 each! And it was $15 well spent!"

We serve a God who most certainly can move mountains.

But sometimes the greater revelations of God

are discovered when He doesn't move the mountain.

Indeed, He takes our hand and helps us climb up

and over impossibilities one step at a time.

Something to remember -

Because it was so hard to do, Annie commented that it was after climbing Mount Katahdin that she fully enjoyed it.

One of the girls' many hiking stories -

A woman was finishing the Appalachian trail which is a six-month hike. She was sobbing, with exhaustion and jubilation, as she approached the Mount Katahdin sign on the summit. A man, who had been asking all the other hikers, went up to her as well and said, "Have you seen my water bottle with the orange cap?" Needless to say, the woman kept making her way to the sign!

We laughed hearing the story, and we are pretty sure it is something Michael from The Office would have done!

They did it, and they didn't take the easier routes! Annie, Eliza and Ivana took on Mount Katahdin for their first hiking adventure! 11 hours. 34 km. 5267 feet. There was a round of "Jesus loves me" on Knife's Edge, with Eliza praying "Be strong and courageous. Never terrified or discouraged for God is with us wherever we go!"  What an amazing weekend they had! More adventures to come!

With little camping or hiking experience,

and after two necessary cancellations by Baxter State Park,

they still went for it!

They were determined.
