serendipity

Annie is working part-time in the library at Crandall University. When putting covers on books, she discovered my name from 31 years ago!

I went to Atlantic Baptist College, which is now known as Crandall. I studied there for two years completing the Associate of Arts diploma before studying at Mount Allison University. After I graduated with my BA in 1990, I donated all my textbooks to the ABC library. I had forgotten all about it!

Three things I remember about my undergrad years in the late 80's -

A paper wasn't late if you slid it under the prof's door before 8am.

We could pass papers in handwritten.

We went to a mailroom for mail.

A friend's recent post on Instagram made
me realize that it has been 30 years since
we graduated from Mount Allison.
We then took similar paths with our next degrees.

What if I had not gone to Atlantic Baptist College
because I really didn't know what to do?

What if I had not transferred to Mount Allison
even though I still wasn't sure what I was doing?

What if Lisa, a year younger, had not asked
if I would be her roommate when she transferred the next year?

(We knew each other from basketball,
but it wasn't until we were roommates that we became framily.)

She always knew she was going to be a teacher.
I didn't know until later.

Slice of Life | Wall of Fame

When I graduated from high school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and decided to attend Atlantic Baptist College. I lived at home and completed their Associate of Arts diploma before transferring to Mount Allison University. It was a good place to start! I have fond memories, especially of the professors. I learned how to be a student there.

Atlantic Baptist College (ABC) is now known as Crandall University. It is in a beautiful new location and has grown significantly! My framily, Lisa, who I played basketball with at ABC and Mount A, recently sent pictures of this wall at Crandall. What a surprise! As Female Athletes of the Year, we are on their Wall of Fame!

Slice of Life | Windsor Hall

Looking back at my Mount Allison University dorm room in 1988-1989,

I see -

a quilt that came from our Landers' camp and is on Ethan's bed

a television that had one channel

a cassette tape player sitting beside it

a trunk that Dad got for $5 back in the 60's

photos on the bulletin board and I can remember each one

no books, but there was a shelf for our books between the windows

no computer as I never used one when I was an undergrad

I remember -

transferring from Atlantic Baptist College to Mount A that year

wondering if that is where I was suppose to be

wondering what I was going to do

daily lunches with Wendy and Christine

only eating salad and English muffins

missing basketball

the adventure of the missing JVC walkman

going home on the weekends

a broken heart

getting cards every week from my sister

visits from my buddy, Craig

loving the town of Sackville

a moment at that desk when God reminded me of something I needed to hear
