Moms In Prayer

When Annie was in kindergarten, I started leading a Moms In Prayer group.

We had sweet hours of prayer for our children and school every week.

We met for years.

Oh, how I miss praying like we prayed in our Moms In Prayer group.

What I miss the most is -

  the short, simple conversational praying

bringing one subject at a time to God

the prayers of praise to Him

the time of thanksgiving over answered prayers

  praying with God's beautiful promises

hearing another pray for my children

It's hard to capture in words how sweet the hour was.

Ever since, when praying with others, my brain gets jumbled and I think,

   Wait. Wait.

You have prayed about so many things.

I want to pray with you about each one.

   Wait. Wait.

I just prayed about something and you started praying about something else.

Please pray with me about it.

It's just the way we have prayed, praying through a list. It's still beautiful and real and heart-moving and heart-changing and more. It's just not the same as being in a Moms In Prayer group.

Moms In Prayer taught me more about the beauty of prayer and the connection to Him and to others. There's a slowing down and talking to Him together.

I have been wondering again. Now in the world of more virtual gatherings, it would be possible to do the same for Moms In Prayer. Maybe another mom will join me to pray for our children in university.

Daily Gifts | 2

Karrilee is in the midst of chemo treatments and I haven't wanted to pass on a flu bug with this ongoing cough. With a mask for me, we visited and I watched her working in the office with smiles and determination. She is tough stuff.

Annie is home tonight.

Our Moms In Prayer group for Harrison Trimble met for prayer. Oh, how I love going to battle with these moms!

day 2 | slice of life challenge

On Sunday, I slipped in the side door of a friend's house. Into the basement I went to meet with her and another mom. My heart overflowed because we were together to pray for our children and our children's school.  When Annie started kindergarten, we started a Moms In Prayer group. As the kids grew into teens, it was more challenging to meet and the hour slipped away from us. We tried different ways to connect by email for prayers, but the need to be together stayed with me. And now here we are. Three of us have committed to praying one hour a week for our children and school. Thank You, God.

Five Minute Friday | adore

adore

o come let us adore Him

so often I hear the two words...

praise and thanks

...used in the same way

but from being in a Moms in Prayer group I think of them as very different

every hour of prayer begins with our praises

praising Him for Who He is

sweet adoration

   God, You are our...

   Friend...
      Comforter...
         Savior...
               Great Physician...

                  ...so many wonderful attributes

when we put our eyes on Him and Who He is our hearts and minds are changed

everything else falls away

every worry...every burden...every need...every fear...

He is all that matters

nothing else

we remember that it's all about Him

o yes, there is a time to give thanks for all He has done

but o how sweet it is to adore Him and praise Him for Who He is

o come let us adore Him

Slice of Life | Day 3

When Annie was four years old, she went to Covenant Preschool.  During that year, I was home on a maternity leave and I was reading the book, When Mothers Pray, by Cheri Fuller. She spoke of a group called, Moms In Touch International and shared the amazing things that were happening in the lives of children and schools around the world because mothers were praying together.

As I thought of Annie starting kindergarten in the fall, I knew in my heart that I wanted, and needed, to be a part of a group like Moms In Touch. I contacted them in California and learned there were groups all over the world, but none in this area. They sent me a booklet and when I looked through it, I knew God wanted me to do something. I had no idea how or who or when, but the part that stood out for me was "all you need is one other mom to pray with you". It gave me hope. It seemed possible. I started praying for one mom to join me in committing one hour each week to pray for our children and school.

In the fall, I found myself teaching a Sunday School class with Fuller's book. One Sunday morning, a mother said, "We need a group like this for Magnetic Hill School" and there she was. She was my other mom. We set a day and time to pray and I started inviting other moms.

On that first night in January, there were five of us. We prayed and cried. We felt we had found each other. There were tears of joy and understanding and strength. We knew God had brought us together to lift our prayers up to him in one accord.

There are not enough pages to capture all the things we have seen God do!
