We were told that James would experience more swelling within the first 24 hours. However, the swelling went down. To me, the news was promising.
The moments of the next week are a little blurry, but at the same time I remember so much. It is difficult to capture what happened in words. For now, I found an email that I sent after the first week.

Thank you for your emails and most of all your prayers.
It has been an awful week. A rollercoaster. But today was amazing.

James
is not on many of the medicines now. (They
say the less bags you see hanging, the better. He had around 25 and now has
around 5, I believe.) He still has tubes in his mouth, but he is
breathing on his own today. He is not sedated now and he is moving
around a lot. He opens his eyes some when asked, and he is giving a thumbs up
and wiggling his toes (with both sides) for us. Funny story...When
Karrilee asked him to move his thumbs she said, "Wiggle for me". Instead of wiggling his thumb, he wiggled his whole body.
We
are so thankful for what God is doing. Thank you for praying and praying. Today
was a very different Friday from last Friday.
Even
in the worst of times, we knew God was holding us and holding James.
Dale
and Karrilee are holding up well. The Bremner and Landers families have done a lot
of crying, and even laughing, together this week.
Our family and friends, near and far, are so precious. The support has been incredible and a blessing.

Thank
you for continuing to pray for James.
Thank
you for praying for us.
Thank
you for praying for his friends.
That
first night Aunt Wendy (Dale's
sister) and I
stayed with Dale and Karrilee through the night. Karrilee and I sang for about
an hour. (James was probably rolling his eyes. ;0) We
sang carols and hymns and choruses. (I think we put in some old time rock and roll
too.) One song we sang was He's
got the whole world in His hands, but we sang "He's got James Percy in His hands". And when I could, I would sing this old chorus to him through the week: God
will make a way where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see.
He will make a way for (you). He will be (your) guide. Hold (you) closely to
His side. With love and strength for each new day He will make a way. He will
make a way.
He
has been with us through it all.
Thank
you for praying and praying.
Love,
Loralee
