Slice of Life Challenge 4 | Camp Taconic waterfront

When we arrived at camp, Jim needed a certain number of participants registered for his Red Cross Lifeguard Course. I grew up with lots of time in a pool, but I was not much of a swimmer. Most of the 12 had been through the class so I signed up to help out with the numbers. The first thing we had to do was swim forever (can't remember how far but it was like forever). Tim swam beside me to encourage me to keep going (and maybe to make sure I didn't drown). At the end of the day, I talked to Jim and said I wasn't going to keep going with the course. He didn't try to stop me which we still laugh about now! Thankfully, for both of us, Jim only needed certain numbers to start, not finish!

Over the summer, I think running the buddy board was my favorite afternoon assignment. It may have had something to do with Jim being the Waterfront Director. We had become friends and he was a lot of fun to be around!

  2. Hm-m, you are telling this story beautifully. I love reading along, but don't necessarily love when it stops! Looking forward to more!

    1. Oh Linda, thank you so much.
It's a topic that is making writing every day much easier!
As we tell our students, write about what matters to you!

  3. Such fun memories pulled from these photos! I love the candid shots. Where do you keep all these photographs? Do you scan them? I am amazed that A -- you can locate and find the photos, and B -- that you have such a memory for detail!

    1. Photos - Albums. Until digital cameras (ugh), I was a faithful developer and organized my photos in albums.
I scanned many a long time ago.
Memory - I think I remember things better from yesteryear then I do from yesterday!
