Within our family journal, there are sweet moments tucked in with the funny.
Eliza (5) said her socks were uncomfortable. Annie (7) offered her socks to Eliza and said, "You can have my socks."
Eliza (5): I wish people never had to be apart.
What was your favorite part of today?
Eliza (6): Computer class.
Why?
Eliza (6): I saw Annie walk by.
When Ethan (5) and Annie (9) were giggling and playing Monkey Ball, I overheard Ethan say, "I wish you weren't my sister so I could marry you!"
Ethan (7): Eliza, I need you because you are good at everything.
Hmmm. I should have them read the journal when they are grumbling at each other!
You should definitely have them read the journal when they are fighting and send Eliza and Annie straight back to October 2006. I LOVED THAT VIGNETTE!!! October 2006

I saw Annie walk by.
Such simple words--such a powerful message! What a fun post to read!
Good idea! I need to put a sticky tab on it so they can go straight there! :0)
DeleteThank you, Melanie!
I love this - what a treasure you have collected. I wish I could back 15 years and recapture things from my own children. This is so magical!
ReplyDeleteWhen the memories pop up here and there in your day to day, you could jot them down then! Still magical! :0)
DeleteYour children are going to enjoy reading these snippets when they get older. You have captured the important parts of their young years. Loved the line: "When Ethan and Annie were giggling and playing Monkey Ball, I overheard Ethan say, "I wish you weren't my sister so I could marry you!""
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite moments! :0)
DeleteBrilliant idea to complete a Family Journal.
