Slice of Life | Day 2

When the kids were little, I tried to keep up with three different albums and their books of firsts - first word, first tooth, first step. As time went on, it was too challenging to write in three different books. I decided if I was going to get anything down, I would need to just write for all three in one plain journal.

In our family journal, I jot down things they say, accomplishments they make, and so on. Over the years, they've asked me to read parts of it while they guess who did it or said it. There are some wonderful memories saved in what Ethan used to call "the funny book".

Here are a few funny moments:

Mommy: How do you spell Annie?
Annie (3): e-i-e-i-o

I told Eliza (3) that we were going to the sugar camp and that she had been there before but she was in my belly. She was excited, and then said "But I don't want to go in your belly this time!"

Eliza (4); Annie, you're driving me crazy!
Annie (6): No, Eliza. You choose to be crazy!

Annie (6) crying.
Eliza (4) running by to the bathroom.
Annie: Eliza pulled my hair with both hands!
Mommy: Is that true, Eliza?
Eliza: It wasn't me! I didn't see me do it!

When Ethan (7) learned I was sick and needed a supply teacher, he said, "I don't want to go to school today. Can I have a supply student?"

While having an after school snack -
Daddy: Did any girls try to kiss you today?
Ethan (7): No!
Ethan (after a long pause and with a serious voice):
Who is the first girl you ever farted on?

  3. I have a "funny book" for each of our children, too. They love to look back through them and share stories. This year at Christmas, I took a few samples from each book and made them into a game show quiz which we played together. It was a lot of fun. We then took the quiz along when we visited the grandparents and we had them guess who had said or done each item on the list. It was a lot of fun!

  7. I love this idea! And I love that the kids want you to go back to read snippets and guess who said it. I started a blog for the girls, but now that I think about it the last time I wrote was when they turned 3! Yikes! I better get to some journaling...time goes way to fast. Thanks for sharing!
