Loralee

My parents don't know why they named us Karrilee and Loralee, but they said I wouldn't have been Loralee if our sister was with us. Her name was Laureen.

I think Mom said there was a store called Loralee's Hat Shop in Yarmouth.

I always have to spell my name for others.

The teacher on Romper Room never said my name.

Growing up, I never found my name on bookmarks and key rings.

I was shocked when a new girl came to school and her name was Laura Lee.

I had a coach who called me "Triple L". But even with Loralee Landers, I never thought of myself as having three Ls because my first name is one word.

When people write my name in cursive, they often make the mistake of giving me an extra letter, Lorallee, and then correct it.

A parent of a childhood friend always spelled my name wrong with an i. It always made me curious how she didn't notice the pronunciation. I wasn't Lorilee. I was Loralee.

I had a friend who lived with my family for a little while. She often called me Lora which is still endearing to me.

I think I would have preferred to have been named Laura.

But maybe life would have been different as a Laura.
