Slice of Life | Day 13

Mail.

I've always loved sending mail and receiving mail

   from camp friends

from my cousins, Ida and Glenda

from high school friends, like Cammy and Cathy, after graduation

from my sister every week when my heart was broken

from Natalie when she lived in Calgary

from my little nephew when I was going to grad school in Boston

from Jim when we were engaged and he was at Camp Taconic and then Michigan

Mail has changed with email, tweets and more.

But there is nothing like finding an envelope in the mailbox

and looking at the corner to see the return address

   and opening it up

and holding it in your hands as you read it

  1. I love hand written letters as well. There is nothing like opening up a letter and holding it. Usually, the only hand written notes I receive today are thank you notes. And then sometimes those are even computer generated....Love that you have so many faithful letter writers!

    1. Thank you notes are wonderful!
Oh! After I read your comment, I tweaked my entry in case it sounded like I was still exchanging hand written letters! ...Not anymore...Everything is pretty much email now!

  2. Have you received something recently that reminded you how much you love mail or simply musing? Letter, at one point, were my life line to being sane. The friend that has them told me I could have them back at any point I wanted them. I'm not sure I want to revisit all that pain, but appreciate the offer.

    1. I was looking through old photos and this one reminded me of my nephew and how much I loved getting mail! I posted his art work in my dorm room!
...I can understand your hesitation. Sometimes it is hard to reread. Sometimes it is easier to write and let it go.

  3. Handwritten notes seem to be a thing of the past, so whenever I receive one, I cherish it. I still have letters that my Mom and Dad wrote and even one from my Grandmother. They are so special and bring back such wonderful memories.

  4. Your post makes me nostalgic...I am sorry to say that I don't write letters anymore, it's all online. You capture the magic of "snail mail".

  5. Your post reads like a poem--there are so many big memories tucked into small phrases. You are right about letters and mail, they are not at all the same as emails and text messages. Lovely post.
