Dad, who is 86 years old, has a couple of school stories that bother me.
There was a boy in the school who was unkind to others.
One day, during prayer, he dug his fingers into Dad's sides from behind and Dad made a sound because it caught him by surprise.
They were both taken up front and had to stay after school.
Dad told the teacher he didn't do anything.
He got the strap.
(He says this teacher was very nice.)
Dad says he always found fractions difficult.
He was given a problem to do at the board and he stood there through recess trying to figure it out.
The teacher banged his head - thump, thump, thump - against the chalkboard.
He didn't tell his parents.
The story always makes me cry.
(He says this teacher was very mean to students.)
