Annie, Evelyn and Grace

Annie started playing volleyball for the school. Mr. Cochrane, her coach and phys ed teacher, would often invite her to go to the preseason practices for the Roofers Volleyball Club.
When he would see me, the conversation would usually sound like this -
"I asked Annie to come to the Roofers practice."
"What did she say?"
"You know Annie. Nothing."
She would smile and not say a word.
On the weekend of the tryouts, Annie was at a sleepover with Evelyn and Grace. Annie had told us she was not going to play for Roofers, but with encouragement from her precious friends, Annie went bravely to that Sunday tryout and played for Roofers for the next six years.
Today Annie is finishing her second year of university and playing AUS volleyball with a scholarship.
