Slice of Life | His Last Day

A------'s family found a new place to live,

but it meant  moving to another school.

On his last day, we gathered in our gratitude circle.

This time we all said the same thing,

"I'm thankful for A------."

When the rain stick reached him, he said,

"I'm not going."

His English was clear

and he said it with determination and a twinkle in his eye,

We giggled with him

...and wished he wasn't.

  1. That saying goodbye. So hard for all of us!

  2. Ack- I have a student leaving Friday and we have been talking about that bittersweet feeling- hard for sure.

  3. I've had a student have to say goodbye through the years, never easy in a loving community which yours sounds like. What a nice modeling you are giving your students in being positive.

  4. Always hard to say goodbye...but the memories will stay.

  5. At least he knows he was loved while he was in your class.

  6. What a great ceremony to give tribute to a final goodby, Loralee.

  7. Thank you so much for your kind and understanding comments.

  8. At least you were able to say goodbye. So many of our students just leave. No goodbye hug, no goodbye cry, no goodbye. What a great lasting memory that he was so loved.

Thank you for being here.
